How TaskLocal works for Customers

From posting your job to confirming completion, this guide explains the main stages of booking a local Professional through TaskLocal.

1

Create your Customer account

Create your TaskLocal account and complete the information required to use the platform.

2

Post your job

Describe the work you need, choose the relevant service category and provide the information Professionals need to understand the job.

Add useful details such as your area, budget and photos where appropriate.

3

Receive offers from Professionals

Professionals whose services match your job can view suitable opportunities and submit offers.

You can compare the offers and Professional information available through TaskLocal before making a decision.

4

Accept an offer or make a counter-offer

You can accept a suitable offer. Where the counter-offer feature is available, you can propose a different price for the Professional to consider.

Once an offer or counter-offer is accepted, the accepted amount becomes the final agreed price.

5

Choose an available work slot

After the Professional is selected, TaskLocal can ask you to choose from the Professional's available work slots.

This allows the booking to continue using a date and time the Professional has made available.

6

Pay the Customer platform fee

The normal Customer TaskLocal platform fee is 3% of the final agreed price.

Example
Final agreed price: £100
Customer platform fee: £3

An eligible voucher may reduce the platform fee. If a voucher covers the full fee, no remaining Customer platform-fee payment is required.

Where an amount remains payable, TaskLocal uses Stripe Checkout to process the platform-fee payment.

The TaskLocal platform fee is separate from the price for the actual work carried out by the Professional.
7

Wait for the Professional booking step

After your side of the platform-fee process is completed, the Professional may still need to complete their own TaskLocal fee or confirmation step.

The booking is not treated as fully ready for work until the required booking steps have been completed.

8

Contact details become available

Private contact details are protected during the offer and booking process.

They become available according to TaskLocal's booking rules after the required platform-fee and confirmation steps have been completed.

Do not use job descriptions, offers or messages to share telephone numbers, email addresses or social-media details in order to bypass TaskLocal's booking process or fees.
9

The Professional starts the job

Once the booking is ready, the Professional can mark the work as started.

TaskLocal changes the job to in progress and sends you a notification.

10

The Professional marks the work complete

When the Professional has finished, they can mark the work as complete.

This does not immediately close the job. TaskLocal asks you to confirm completion.

11

Confirm completion

Review the completed work and use the TaskLocal completion page to confirm that the job has been completed.

Until you confirm it, the booking remains awaiting your completion confirmation.

12

Leave your review

When confirming completion, you are asked to choose a rating from 1 to 5 stars and write your feedback.

After confirmation, the job becomes completed and your review contributes to the Professional's rating on TaskLocal.

13

Cancellations or problems

If something goes wrong with a booking, use TaskLocal's available cancellation or reporting options as appropriate.

Refund treatment can depend on who cancelled, the booking stage and which TaskLocal platform services have already been provided.
